Farmers in the municipalities of San Remigio and Valderrama are recipients of 70 caracows to be used for breeding and farming activities.

Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO) Assistant Provincial Coordinator Dovie Brasileño, in an interview Wednesday, said 70 heads of caracows worth PHP2.8 million were dispersed to 70 farmer-beneficiaries under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) during the two separate dispersal programs.

“Thirty-five caracows were first dispersed to the farmer-beneficiaries in the Municipality of San Remigio on June 9 and then today another 35 were completely distributed also to those in Valderrama,” Brasileño said.

The farmer-beneficiaries were chosen by their farmer associations.

“The caracow is being provided to the farmer-beneficiaries so that it could be used to till their lands,” she added.

The distributed caracows, which are about two to three years old, are very useful, especially in mountainous areas with steep slopes where farmers have problems in using mechanized tractors due to the difficult terrain.

While the farm animal is a grant, farmer associations agreed that the recipients should give back the first two suckling for eventual dispersal to other interested members. (PNA)
