The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regional office here is bringing its Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) campaign to schools in this city this May since the majority of unregistered individuals are school children.

PSA Eastern Visayas regional director Wilma Perante said the registration center, which will process the second step of national identification registration, will be set up in six schools in the city until the end of the month.

“The school registration campaign addresses the low registration turnout due to lack of awareness of students and parents on the required supporting documents for PhilSys registration,” Perante said in a statement on Monday.

The initiative aims to increase the number of schools that support the conduct of PhilSys institutional registration and effectively cascade pertinent information to teachers, parents and students.

These Tacloban-based schools are Leyte National High School, St. Francis Elementary School, Guadalupe Integrated School, Greendale Integrated School, Cabalawan Elementary School and Ridgeview Elementary School.

The campaign targets 5 to 15-year-old unregistered children, according to Perante since many of those under this age group are not registered.

Step 2 of the registration process involves the validation of supporting documents and capturing of biometrics.

As of April 30, some 3.63 million individuals in Eastern Visayas have been registered with PhilSys out of the 4.54 million population in the region.

Signed into law in August 2018, Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens. (PNA)
