The historical island city of Lapu-Lapu allocated PHP11 million for the local nutrition program that will benefit 6,132 daycare children, the mayor said on Wednesday.
“This program aims to combat malnutrition, ensuring that no child attends school on an empty stomach,” Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said in a statement.
Chan said the supplemental feeding program for daycare children aims to address the city’s malnutrition issue.
He said the city also has an ongoing program to provide food relief to the poorest families in the city.
Meanwhile, Chan said the city has a program to provide shelter and ensure the safety of children who would become victims of calamities, stressing that the city prepositioned evacuation centers equipped with playrooms and educational materials.
“Financial assistance programs for fire victims and the establishment of a Home Care Center for Children further demonstrated a holistic approach to child welfare,” he added. (PNA)
