The Marawi Compensation Board (MCB) has distributed nearly PHP2 billion to qualified claimants over the past two years, meeting its 100 percent payment target, an official bared Monday.
During the nationwide telecast of the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon program, MCB Chairperson Maisara Dandamun-Latiph said the board disbursed payments to 1,436 claimants from 2023 to 2024.
“We had an impressive and efficient delivery of payments. For this year, we are targeting around 2,000 to 3,000 claimants to receive compensation,” Latiph said.
The MCB is tasked with processing 14,495 claims from individuals affected by the 2018 Marawi siege, which devastated 32 barangays. Under Republic Act 11696, the board is mandated to compensate survivors whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed, with a deadline set for 2028.
Latiph emphasized that the nine-member MCB, as a quasi-judicial body, rigorously screens applications to prevent fraud and ensure accurate compensation.
The board’s efforts aim to provide relief and support to Marawi residents as they rebuild their lives and communities. (PNA)
