The provincial government of Camarines Sur received PHP2.5 million worth of health items and medicines from the Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol following the devastation by Super Typhoon Uwan.

In a report Monday, the DOH-Bicol said the commodities include water purification tablets to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water, breastfeeding kits for pregnant and lactating women, insecticide-treated nets, screens for mosquito protection, hygiene kits and water containers.

DOH-Bicol provided PHP1.7 million worth of commodities and logistical support to Uwan-affected residents in Catanduanes.

The public is reminded about the diseases to watch out for during and after a disaster.

Living in temporary, crowded facilities with limited access to clean drinking water, adequate sanitation, and safe food can increase the risk of food and water-borne diseases such as cholera, amoebiasis and typhoid fever.

The DOH visited and assessed the most affected areas to check the condition of sanitation facilities and water sources in evacuation centers.

Water purification tablets were given to local government units for immediate distribution to communities, ensuring the availability of safe drinking water. (PNA)
