The local government of Maslog, Eastern Samar, will provide rice, transportation, and fuel assistance to municipal-paid teachers (MPTs), particularly those assigned in remote communities.

Mayor Septemio Santiago said on Wednesday that the program will benefit MPTs assigned to the remote villages of Carayacay, Taytay, Tugas, Libertad, and San Roque.

They will receive six kilograms of rice every week.

Teachers assigned to remote areas and who travel home weekly will also receive transportation assistance for their Monday trips to their assigned schools and Friday trips back home.

For teachers using their own motorcycles, the local government will provide two liters of gasoline per week to those assigned to more distant areas and one liter per week to other MPTs, depending on the distance from their homes to their assigned schools.

MPTs without motorcycles will be transported to their assigned schools using the municipal government vehicle currently being used for its Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) Program.

“The assistance is intended to help reduce the transportation and other weekly expenses of teachers serving in communities outside the town center,” Santiago said in a phone interview.

He said the measures are part of the local government’s continuing support for teachers and its efforts to strengthen the delivery of quality and inclusive education in the municipality.

The mayor also said teachers remain important partners of the local government in educating Maslog’s children and helping prepare them for the future.

Maslog is a fifth-class municipality located in the interior part of Eastern Samar province with a population of 5,438 based on the 2024 census scattered across its 12 barangays. (PNA)
