Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao has expressed her worry over the low coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination rate, particularly among seniors.

“I am quite worried that our home province might not get a chance to be placed under Alert Level 1 if our Covid-19 vaccination will remain low,” Cadiao said in an interview on Wednesday.

Antique and Negros Occidental are so far the only two provinces in Western Visayas that remained under Alert Level 2.

The governor is set to issue a new Executive Order (EO) extending the previous EO 32-C that also extended the Alert Level 2 in the province from May 16 to 31 except in the towns of Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, San Jose de Buenavista, and Sebaste that has been categorized under Alert Level 1.

The said municipalities were placed under a lowered classification after having achieved a high vaccination accomplishment.

A report from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that the province, as of May 27, has a 67.51-percent inoculation accomplishment for first dose, or 339,212 people vaccinated out of the 502,436 target population.

The fully vaccinated is at 319, 601 or 63.61 percent, while those who have received booster shots reached 35,869.

For the elderly population or 60 years old and above, 59.40 percent or 31,319 have availed of the first dose and 58.13 percent or 30,649 for the second dose out of the 52,725 eligible target population.

As of May 27, some 21, 406 seniors are still unvaccinated. (PNA)
