The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Central Luzon (BFAR-3) has distributed environment-friendly fishing gear and paraphernalia to fisherfolk in Dingalan, Aurora.

The BFAR, through the Provincial Fisheries Office of Aurora, provided 12 tuna hand lines, two bottom sets of long lines, and six gillnets to 20 fisherfolk beneficiaries on Wednesday.

BFAR-3 Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz said on Thursday the move was to provide sustainable livelihood support to small-scale fishers in Dingalan.

“This is part of our continuing efforts to help improve the lives of our marginal fishers,” Cruz said in a social media post.

Last Aug. 22, the BFAR also distributed PHP345,000 worth of fishing gears and other paraphernalia to registered fisherfolk and fisherfolk associations in San Luis town, also in Aurora.

Two fisherfolk associations each received a shallow payao or fish aggregating device to attract fish such as tuna while the individual recipients got tuna hand lines, bottom set gill nets, simple hand lines, spear guns, and marine engines. (PNA)
