As the go-ahead signal for the administration of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) booster shots for non-immunocompromised children aged 12 to 17 have been given, Manila City started its rollout for the first booster jab for this age group on Wednesday.

In a statement, Dr. Edgar Santos ll, Manila Health Department assistant to the city health officer for special project, urged parents to bring their children to the city’s Covid-19 vaccination sites for their first booster shot.

“Dahil sa unti-unting pagtaas ng bilang ng mga indibidwal na nag-positibo sa Covid-19, gayundin ng nalalapit na pagbubukas ng mga face-to-face classes sa mga eskwelahan, hinihikayat po natin ang lahat ng mga magulang na dalhin ang kanilang mga anak sa mga piling lugar ng bakunahan sa Maynila (Due to the gradual increase in the number of individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19, as well as the imminent opening of face-to-face classes in schools, we encourage all parents to bring their children in designated vaccination sites in Manila),” Santos said.

The Manila Public Information Office said the city government designated the city’s 44 health centers and four malls for minors 12 to 17 years old who are not immunocompromised.

Meanwhile, immunocompromised minors are advised to have their first Covid-19 booster jab in the city’s six hospitals — Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Sta. Ana Hospital, Ospital ng Tondo, Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center, and Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital.

“Manilenyo man o hindi ay tinatanggap sa mga nabanggit na vaccination sites. Kinakailangan lamang na magparehistro sa website na www.manilacovid19vaccine.ph. Hinihikayat din ang lahat ng indibidwal na magpabakuna ng kanilang primary dose at booster shots sa mga nabanggit na lugar (Manila and non-Manila residents are welcome in the said vaccination sites. Just register through the website www.manilacovid19vaccine.ph. We also urge those individuals who have yet to receive their primary doses and booster shots to get vaccinated),” he said.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday announced that children aged 12 to 17 may already receive their Covid-19 first booster shots.

However, the DOH clarified that immunocompromised minors may get their first booster shot 28 days after their second dose, while the rest of the pediatric population, 12 to 17 years old, may have their first booster five months after their second dose. (PNA)
