Presidential aspirant Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso said on Wednesday what is happening in Ukraine should be a wake-up call for the Philippines.
In his sortie here, Moreno said the country should always be prepared for any eventuality.
“Ang paghahanda ang importante lalo na ang posibleng mangyari na hindi naman natin pinapangarap o iniisip na mangyari pero maigi na maging handa (Preparation is very important, especially for the possible things that we did not imagine could happen but it is better to be ready)” the Manila mayor said in a short interview.
Moreno said he is worried in case a problem like that would spread to Taiwan where there are 150,000 Filipinos.
“Paano mae-evacuate ang mga yon, paano maliligtas ang bawat overseas Filipino worker (How can they evacuate, how can every overseas Filipino worker be saved)? What transpired in Ukraine should be a wake-up call na dapat meron tayong paghahanda (that we must have preparations),” he said.
Moreno said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is doing the right thing but reiterated that the country must be prepared in case crisis erupts in Taiwan.
In a message to his supporters in this town led by mayoral bet Alex Acuzar and vice mayoralty candidate Jun Espino, Moreno said he considers governance as simple.
“Ang pangarap ng tao ay bahay na kung umulan at bumagyo may sisilungang sariling iyo, eskwelahan para sa anak at magkaroon ng maayos na laban sa buhay tulad ng ospital para kapag nagkasakit ay may tatakbuhan na matino, may gamot, may doktor at equipment (The people’s dream is to have a house that in case there is rain or storm, there is a shelter of their own, schools for the children and to have a proper protection in life such as hospital for the sick, medicines, doctors and equipment),” he said.
Meanwhile, Bishop Ruperto C. Santos of the Bataan Diocese administered the ash on Moreno, his running mate for vice president Dr. Willie Ong and senatoriable Jopet Sison at the Bishop’s chapel in the Saint Joseph Cathedral in Balanga City.
Also present in the Bataan campaign was senatorial aspirant Samira Gutoc.
The bishop of the Diocese of Balanga personally welcomed Moreno and his group who held a motorcade in Balanga City and later in Pilar down to Samal town. (PNA)
