Actress and vlogger Kim Chiu recently celebrated her 32nd birthday last April 19 and people showered her with greetings — including VP Leni Robredo, a presidential candidate she has been openly endorsing.

While Kim accepted VP Leni’s greetings with tears and joy, some netizens seemed to have misinterpreted the birthday message, citing that it sounded as if the actress had passed away.

VP Leni’s birthday greetings, as a result, received backlash from some netizens on Twitter.

Philippine Showbiz’s ‘Chinita Princess’ cannot help but respond to a netizen’s misinterpretation of the said birthday greeting. In a tweet saying, “Wag ka nga! ? ‘Di naman ikaw yung binati eh. Ako diba? Ako yung nag birthday. Nakikinood ka na nga lang ganyan ka pa. Ako kasi naintindihan ko, para sa’kin naman yung message. Ikaw ba? Nabati ka na ng taong tinitingala mo sa birthday mo? Bawas nega. Para angat buhay lahat. ?”

The actress expressed that she understood the message anyway since it was for her, implying that people should stop twisting the message because it was not intended for them.

Antoinette Jadaone, a well-known director, also reacted to the backlash. They are known to have worked before for the 2015 film All You Need is Pag-Ibig, together with Kim’s love team and real-life boyfriend, Xian Lim.

The director replied on Kim’s Twitter thread, saying “Mga tao talaga, copy paste comments ng iba, mali naman! Happy Birthday Kimmy and you are really in a good place!”

This was in reference to VP Leni Robredo’s controversial birthday greeting, where she said, “Kim, happy happy birthday. Magkasunod pala birthday natin, but I want to wish you a very happy birthday. I know you are in a good place now.”

This received negative comments from some netizens, saying that the phrase ‘you are in a good place’ is creepy, making them think that the actress’ life had ended.

This has prompted the actress to take her response via Twitter. Other netizens backed Kim Chiu’s response, saying that people should not bother with ‘mindless’ remarks.
