Workers tapped under the government’s emergency employment program helped ensure that schools in the 45 barangays of San Remigio in Antique are ready for the June 16 start of classes.

The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) deployed over 2,000 recipients who trimmed tall grasses, planted vegetables in the school gardens, cleared canals, constructed pathways, and did other work needed to beautify the schools.

“TUPAD workers also made pathway openings in the interior barangays of Panpanan I and Rizal so it would be easier for the learners to traverse in going to their schools from their homes through the habal-habal (motorcycle for hire),” San Remigio Municipal Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said in an interview on Tuesday.

The TUPAD workers rendered 10 days of work and will be paid PHP513 daily.

“Our schools are now clean with only a few more work left to be done,” Mission added.

Meanwhile, Mission said Aningalan Integrated Farm School in Barangay Aningalan and Sumaray Integrated School in Barangay Sumaray will already offer senior high school this school opening.

“The two schools will be offering Humanities and Social Sciences strand,” he said.

With the offering, learners enrolled in these schools are assured they can complete their secondary education without leaving their barangays. (PNA)
