Women’s involvement in fields or workplaces where they can be given leadership roles will certainly prove that their skills, attitudes, and values also deserve to be recognized and given more credit.

That said, here are some of the best reasons why women in positions of leadership are absolutely needed in the world we live in today!

1. Women show exceptional leadership qualities

Not all women have the same leadership styles, but they generally possess exceptional leadership qualities that others may not know about.

Women are known for bringing and inviting creative ideas or perspectives to the table, as they can freely apply what they have learned from their experiences and use their emotions intelligently to connect more with their people.

In fact, more women were rated as better overall leaders by their peers, bosses, direct reports, and other associates, given their competencies in taking initiatives, self-development, high integrity, collaboration and teamwork, stretching goals, and relationship building.

Thus, when women become leaders, they do not monopolize the work process. Rather, they are active in gathering the overall views of the entire team to create positive influence and achieve a common goal that everyone has worked hard for.

2. Women are good communicators

Women, by nature, excel at communicating and collaborating in all aspects of their lives, and it is no different when they have to lead their people.

Although their position gives them the authority to command, they still sound composed and calm in a way that does not impose intimidation. Through this, truth and transparency within the team are nurtured.

Several studies in the last 30 years have also revealed that what makes women better communicators is their communication style: they know how to talk about existing problems, how to foster connections when negotiating, and how to maintain interaction to achieve common goals rather than seeking full control.

Women actually have the natural talent to appear intimate and approachable in communicative situations.

Hence, if there are urgent matters or issues that must be addressed, an open communication channel is easily established and immediately resolves the existing concerns.

3. Women embody empathy

Because of the roles they play throughout their lives, be it as a sister, mother, or friend to peers, empathy is often perceived as the greatest superpower women possess.

Showing more empathy does not equate to letting their team have their way in achieving their individual goals, but rather accepting that everyone perceives others and the world around them differently without judging them.

It has been proven that women always seek empathy and understanding and are naturally inclined to offer unsolicited advice.

By being empathetic, a woman leader can openly relate, communicate, and build stronger connections with her team that will make it easier to share mutual opinions or ideas.

Women are more likely to use this form of leadership than the authoritative type, making them more effective and influential.

4. Women leaders offer good mentorship

Every individual requires someone to mentor them as they advance throughout the stages of their life. In particular, women leaders actually excel in mentorship, considering that they are more empathetic, open to discussions, and have greater communication skills.

A strong feminine leadership was said to include supporting, consulting, inspiring, and mentoring.

As studies proved, women are given more mentorship roles because they excel at leadership development and ensuring objective performance evaluations.

Also, women leaders can easily discuss or elaborate on the strengths and weaknesses of their mentees to provide them with a better development plan and training.

5. Women in leadership can help bridge gender gap

Realistically speaking, gender gaps exist in all parts of society, even around the world. Their space to showcase their exceptional skills remains terribly small and restricted because they are often seen as inferior to others.

If women leaders are to be considered, this can help to diminish the established social norms that label women with particular roles, chores, and obligations they “must do as women.”

As a matter of fact, gender prejudice towards women stems from the assumptions that they are only meant to be mothers and that there are only expected careers for both women and men to have in society, which damages the image of what a typical employee should look like regardless of their gender.

Truly, the need for more women leaders has never been greater; it is on the rise. Hence, we must always advocate for an open and more inclusive space where they can freely showcase their capabilities to lead people in achieving their goals and helping them thrive.
